Election 2012: getting informed, caring about politics

I voted for my first time this year, and I’m proud to say I was an informed voter. For the first time in my life, I’ve cared about politics. My professor Deneen Gilmour is to thank. She was the one that came to me in May before the end of the semester and said, “I want SPJ to host Debate Watch 2012.”

When the semester began, the other SPJ officers and I started planning. Although it was a bit stressful getting everything pulled together, the event was totally worth it. It was a huge success not only because a lot of people attended, but because it got students thinking about and discussing politics.

I ended up watching all of the presidential and vice presidential debates and got informed about the candidates and the measures. And when yesterday finally came, I was so excited to watch everything unfold.

Whether or not you were satisfied with the outcome of the election, I think it’s important for all of us to stand behind our president and our country. The campaigns are now over and it’s time to move on, forget about partisanship and work together to make our country better.

Temporary winter wonderland

Last Friday looked like a white winter wonderland as big fluffy flakes slowly fell to the ground. It was the perfect time to take some pictures, so I threw on my scarf, hat and mittens (all from Target) and ran outside.
I love how the white snow and winter accessories pop against my red Merona sweater (also from Target). It’s the perfect casual winter outfit.

After looking at these photos, I realized my entire look, minus the boots, is from Target. I typically don’t like being a “walking advertisement” for any store, but I love this look, so I really don’t mind.

If you haven’t bought a new hat yet this winter, I really recommend getting this Merona knit brim hat. It comes in a variety of colors and is absolutely adorable – not to mention, it’s extremely affordable.

Winter has just begun, but I’ve already found my favorite winter accessory.

What’s your favorite accessory this winter?

I’m back with a hot pink cardi & stripes

It’s been quite a busy semester so far (click here to see what I’ve been up to) and as much as I’ve tried to blog it just hasn’t happened. I’m not going to make any promises that it will from now on because honestly it could be another week and a half before I post again. But, let’s hope that’s not the case because I have plenty of photos to share! So, what are we waiting for? Let’s start with these photos from a few weeks ago.

I wore my striped tank top from Express with a pink boyfriend cardigan from Target, Mossimo skinny jeans and my black Steve Madden Pinup Boots. I’m in love with this pink cardigan. It’s so bright and fun, not to mention comfy! It’s the perfect cute & comfy combo for the blog. And the striped tank is adorable, definitely one of my favorites this summer and it’s transitioning well into the fall.

This has been one of my go-to looks for classes: comfy top + skinny jeans + boots + cross-body bag = the perfect look for trekking around campus every day. It’s cute, comfy and most of all practical.

What is (or was) your go-to look for college classes?

Live It! Cover Shoot Pt. 2

I got my copies of Live It! in the mail and the cover looks so much better in print!

Here’s a look at my fashion piece:

They used the same outfit for the cover and inside, but Robert and I shot so many great photos, so I wanted to share the other outfits too.

Look 2: Swap peep toe pumps heels for boots & add neutral sweater + tights

Look 3: Swap wedges for boots & add neutral cardigan
Here are some of my other photos from the shoot:
What’s your favorite look? And how do you plan to transition your summer wardrobe for fall?

Playful, yet polished

Of all the outfits I’ve worn lately, I think today’s look best defines my true style (and the name of the blog): cute and comfy.

Today, I wore my black body-con dress from Forever 21 with a blue flowy skirt from Target. From the dress to the skirt to the sandals, everything about this look is comfy. The materials are super soft and everything fits perfectly.

The look is fun and playful, yet polished and perfect for work. The top is tight and the skirt is so flowy, which creates the perfect balance. I love how the black top compliments the bright blue bottom. And the sparkly necklace and belt really complete the look.

I love everything about it.  It’s super cute and super comfy, plus there’s a bit of sparkle and shine, which I love! It’s perfect the look for a “cute ‘n’ comfy” girl like me! :)
